(LibertySociety.com) – Billionaire Elon Musk is making a massive donation to the America PAC that supports former President Donald Trump.
Musk, the CEO of Twitter, SpaceX, and Tesla, is pledging to donate $45 million a month to the super PAC, one of the largest donations to a 2024 presidential campaign. The donations will begin this month. Musk announced the donation on July 15, the day Trump announced his vice-presidential pick, Ohio Sen. J.D. Vance.
Established in May, the political action committee will focus primarily on voter registration and outreach efforts to help persuade people to “vote early and request mail-in ballots.” As of the end of June, the group, registered in Texas, has just under $1,000,000 cash on hand and has raised $8.75 million in the second quarter, according to federal filings. The group is attempting to battle against the Democrats’ campaign to “get out the vote.”
Billionaires Cameron and Tyler Winklevoss, Palantir Technologies co-founder Joe Lonsdale, former U.S. ambassador to Canada and Kentucky Senate candidate Kelly Craft and her husband, Alliance Resource Partners CEO Joe Craft, billionaire venture capitalist Doug Leone, SpaceX board director Antonio Gracias, Sequoia Capital investor Shaun Maguire, and former PayPal executive and former U.S. ambassador to Sweden, Ken Howery, have also supported the PAC. Lonsdale’s personal company, Gracias and Howery, each donated $1 million, Maguire donated $500,000, and the Winklevoss twins donated $250,000.
Musk’s donation comes after he announced his endorsement of Trump on July 13, after the attempted assassination of Trump at his rally in Butler, Pennsylvania. In the post on Twitter, Musk wrote, “I fully endorse President Trump,” adding that he hoped “for his rapid recovery.”
Musk was not the only one to endorse Trump following the assassination attempt. On Twitter, a friend of Musk and hedge fund manager Bill Ackman wrote that he was formally endorsing Trump, adding that he “came to this decision some time ago.
