(LibertySociety.com) – The First Amendment prohibits the government from making laws prohibiting free speech for any citizen. In September, Senator Elizabeth Warren (D-MA) sent a letter to Amazon’s CEO Andy Jassy, requesting he change the company’s algorithm to exclude Dr. Joseph Mercola’s new book, “The Truth About COVID-19,” due to what she believes is misinformation. Now, the alternative medicine enthusiast and Chelsea Green Publishing are suing the lawmaker.
The suit alleges Warren violated the doctor’s right to free speech by writing the letter, essentially requesting a ban of the book and other books like it.

Since the pandemic’s beginning, the scientific community and those who believe in vaccines quickly labeled those who disagreed as dangerous spreaders of misinformation.
The legislator’s letter points out her opinion on Mercola’s book, stating that it “perpetuates dangerous conspiracies about COVID-19.” Three days after Amazon received her letter, the company allegedly notified the publisher it would not run any more ads promoting the work. Because the Senator represents the federal government, the lawsuit hinges on the free speech text within the Constitution, citing a Supreme Court ruling from 1963.
The plaintiffs demand a retraction letter from Warren.
