(LibertySociety.com) – Rapper Sean ‘Diddy’ Combs recently attempted to save face after shocking video footage from 2016 showed him assaulting a woman in the hallway of a hotel. The woman was Cassie Ventura, Combs’s then-girlfriend, who filed a civil suit against him in late 2023 for the abuses she allegedly suffered during their relationship. The following day, she dropped the lawsuit and settled with Combs for an unknown amount. Just one day after the video of the incident spread like wildfire in the media and online, Combs posted a video to his Instagram account, appearing remorseful for his actions that day. He claimed that he had “hit rock bottom” at that period of his life, but said, “I take full responsibility for my actions in that video.”
Ventura’s lawsuit against Combs included a detailed account of the hotel incident, but at the time of the lawsuit, his lawyer released a statement of denial. The statement said that Ventura was attempting to blackmail Combs so that she could ruin his reputation and get a large sum of money from him. In his response to the damning footage, Combs also said that he began going to therapy and went into rehab after the incident. He apologized for his actions and claimed that he was not seeking forgiveness.
The video showed Ventura waiting on an elevator when Combs ran from the hallway with a towel wrapped around his waist. He then grabbed Ventura, threw her to the ground, and kicked her two times. After that, he dragged her back down the hallway. Ventura’s lawyer told one media outlet that the video was more confirmation of Combs’ behavior. He also said that Ventura was courageous for telling her story to the world. The Los Angeles District Attorney’s office released a statement to inform the public that it knew about the video but that Combs would not face prosecution because of the state’s statute of limitations.
