(LibertySociety.com) – Although Republican Florida Governor Ron DeSantis has not officially announced a run for President of the United States in 2024, he has become popular among conservatives over the last several years. He has also faced a significant amount of criticism from Democrats thanks to his views on hot-button issues like abortion, immigration, the Second Amendment, and more.
Speaking at a Heritage Foundation leadership summit, he issued a warning to Republicans about Democrats and what he thinks will happen if they take control of Congress and the major offices in 2024. Naming several ideas pushed over the last several years, Governor DeSantis urged Republicans to take the Democrats’ intentions seriously, asking “What will they do with that power?” He said they will push to make Washington D.C. a state, add Supreme Court Justices to shift the balance of the court back in their favor, move to abolish the Electoral College while eliminating voter ID, and make ballot harvesting legal in every state.
Speaking to a crowd of over 1,000, DeSantis claimed that the goal of the Democrat Party is to “block the conservative half of the country out of power,” silencing their voices. DeSantis made no mention of a potential run for president during his speech, although it is widely rumored that he will announce a bid shortly after the end of the legislative session in Florida. Like other official and potential candidates, he has visited the early primary states, and he has also beefed up staff in those locations. So far, five candidates have officially entered the race, with Senator Tim Scott also exploring the possibility of a run.
