(LibertySociety.com) – Governor Ron DeSantis (R-FL) recently signed a bill bringing the legality of abortions in the state from 24 weeks down to 15. Many states like Texas and Mississippi are enacting abortion laws while the United States Supreme Court decides whether or not to uphold Roe v. Wade. The new Florida law does not make exceptions for rape or incest, only allowing for abortions after 15 weeks for fatal abnormalities in the fetus or to save the mother’s life.
DeSantis sees the law as a way to promote fatherhood in his state. The politician stated he wants to see fathers take responsibility for raising their children. The governor was joined by many pro-life activists while signing the bill. Many of them stated they had previous abortions they regret and hoped others could learn from their mistake.

Governor Greg Abbott (R-TX) recently passed a law in Texas banning abortions for pregnant women after six weeks, which SCOTUS allowed. As such, states including Oklahoma, Kentucky, Arizona, Idaho, Indiana, South Dakota, and Wyoming joined the three in a fight against abortion.
Observers expect SCOTUS to rule on Dobbs v. Jackson Women’s Health Organization, a Mississippi case that could effectively overturn Roe v. Wade, in the summer. The outcome of that case could determine the constitutionality and the future of these new laws.
