(LibertySociety.com) – With President Joe Biden’s low ratings across the United States and many questioning his moves since he took office, some wonder if he’ll face impeachment and removal from the White House. On February 2, Representative Jim Jordan (R-OH) stated if Republicans gain the majority in Congress in 2022, he believes impeachment filings to remove the president from office will soon follow. He thinks the crisis at the border is so bad it must be deliberate facilitation by the Biden administration at this point. Although he mentioned the conservative party must agree upon the move “conference-wide,” he’s hopeful they can accomplish the task.
Joe Biden Impeachment
To remove the president from the Oval Office, the House of Representatives must first bring charges for treason, bribery, or another high crime or misdemeanor, as outlined by the Constitution of the United States. However, Congress established three additional types of conduct it can use as grounds: abuse of power, behavior out of alignment with the function and purpose of the POTUS, and misuse of the office for personal gain. The House only needs a simple majority to move the articles of impeachment to the Senate, where conviction and removal require a two-thirds majority vote.
In September 2021, Rep. Bob Gibbs (R-OH) filed three articles of impeachment against Biden in the Lower Chamber for alleged violations of his duties regarding neglect at the border and the withdrawal from Afghanistan. Although the Democrat majority stopped the process in the House, a change in power might alter a future result. However, a conviction will likely require the Right to control both houses of Congress.
The Representative’s Position
The Ohio legislature recently spoke about the southern US border crisis. It concluded Biden’s failure to stop more than ”1.9 million people” from coming across the border in a single year must be intentional. According to Rep. Jim Jordan (R-OH), the administration allows the influx to happen under cover of darkness, so Americans don’t see how bad the illegal immigration problem really is. He believes that fact alone could lead the Right to file articles of impeachment against Biden if given a chance, and he’s not alone. Representative Marjorie Taylor Greene (R-GA) already filed articles of impeachment against the president three times, and Senator Lindsey Graham (R-SC) also called for Biden’s impeachment back in August 2021.
If the GOP garners enough support and takes control of both chambers of Congress in November, those wanting to remove the current president from the White House might get their wish.
