(LibertySociety.com) – Former New Jersey Governor and 2024 presidential primary candidate Chris Christie made clear in a new advertisement that he is not listening to those who think he should drop out of the race. In previous months, multiple anti-Trump Republicans have called for the candidate pool to be slimmed down so that one or two candidates would have a better chance at defeating Trump in the primary. Utah Senator Mitt Romney and former House Speaker Paul Ryan held a summit in Utah in October 2023 to advocate for fewer candidates. Former Vice President Mike Pence and South Carolina Senator Tim Scott appeared to heed those calls, both ending their candidacies within a month of the summit.
Christie believes that he is the candidate to beat Trump. His new ad, which is currently blasting across television screens and digital platforms, is all about Trump. In the ad, Christie scoffed at the naysayers who think he should drop out of the race and noted that he is “the only one saying Donald Trump is a liar.” The ad is the first of a massive seven-figure buy that Christie’s campaign is counting on to catapult his support in the first primary state of New Hampshire. He is currently polling at 10.5 percent in the state, behind Trump and former South Carolina Governor Nikki Haley. Nationally, he has only captured three-percent support.
In the past, Christie has accused the other candidates of being scared to attack former President Trump. Later in the ad, Christie claimed that other Republicans say the same things he says about Trump, but only in private. He said that Trump only increases division and would “burn America to the ground to help himself.” Christie directly asked voters if they would prefer someone for president who lies to them or someone brave enough to be truthful.
Haley, who has been in the spotlight for failing to acknowledge that slavery was the main cause of the Civil War, recently said that Christie was obsessed with talking about Trump and based his entire campaign around criticizing him.
