Pelosi THREATENED — China Sends Her A Message She’ll Never Forget
(LibertySociety.com) – House Speaker Nancy Pelosi (D-CA) is scheduled to visit Taiwan in August, but the Chinese Foreign Ministry said it will issue “resolute and strong measures” if the legislator dares to take the trip. The communist country does not see the island nation as a separate province but as part of its own territory. A visit would be the first from a high-profile official since the late 90s.

The United States considers Taiwan a “key US partner” but does not have official relations with the nation. Instead, the US takes an ambiguous stance toward the territory. A visit from the second in line for the presidency would send the “wrong signal” to Taiwan troops and “undermine China’s sovereignty,” according to Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesperson Zhao Lijian.
Still, the Speaker is insistent on traveling to the region with support from other members of the House. Representative Darrell Issa (R-CA) said the US shouldn’t cater to China just to keep them happy by slighting Taiwan. However, according to Representative Claudia Tenney (R-NY), the White House doesn’t want Pelosi to go but instead to calm down tensions with the communist nation by staying home.
Although Zhao gave no specifics about possible Chinese actions following Pelosi’s impending visit, some speculate the nation could resort to aggressive action in the South China Sea, as it has in the past. After all, Beijing previously declared it would reclaim Taiwan at some point.
Do you think the House Speaker should continue with her plans, or do you feel she should heed the warning and cancel the trip?
