(LibertySociety.com) – Former First Daughter Chelsea Clinton is allegedly angling for an ambassadorship should Vice President Kamala Harris win the presidential election in November.
A source familiar with the matter told the New York Post that the 44-year-old daughter of Bill and Hillary Clinton was eager to become the US Ambassador to Great Britain under a possible Harris administration.
The source suggested that Chelsea’s aspirations were the reason Bill and Hillary Clinton were so quick to endorse Harris, claiming that the Clintons were trying to curry favor with the vice president.
The source said Chelsea would also be willing to serve as the US Ambassador to France if the UK gig did not pan out.
A longtime official with the US Embassy in London told the Post that the ambassadorship typically goes to someone who raises a lot of money for the incoming president’s campaign and that did not describe Chelsea Clinton, whom the official described as too “junior.”
President Joe Biden tapped businesswoman Jane Hartley as his UK ambassador after billionaire Michael Bloomberg turned down the job. Hartley was a Democrat bundler for the Obama campaign, whom then-President Obama awarded with ambassadorships to France and Monaco.
Former President Donald Trump named top Republican fundraiser New York Jets owner Woody Johnson as the Ambassador to Great Britain.
The source told the New York Post that foreign countries like having high-profile individuals as ambassadors because it brings more attention to them.
Chelsea Clinton’s choice of the UK is understandable. She received a Master of Philosophy in international relations from Oxford University in 2003 and went on to obtain a doctorate from Oxford in 2014.
A spokesperson for the Clintons disputed the claim that Bill and Hillary’s endorsement of Kamala Harris was an attempt to curry favor on behalf of their daughter.
The spokesperson told the New York Post the claim was among the stupidest things that “clueless people” have said about the Clintons.
Another Clinton associate also dismissed the claim saying that the Clintons endorsed Kamala Harris solely because they wanted to defeat Donald Trump in November.
