California Democrats Enter Heavyweight Fight for Senate Seat

( – The competition for the Senate seat in California has begun to heat up and is expected to be costly and intense between two top-performing political fundraisers within the Lower Chamber. Rep. Adam Schiff and Rep. Katie Porter, both from California and Democrats, are running for the seat that currently belongs to Sen. Diane Feinstein, who is yet to announce her re-election plans for 2024.

Porter raised a remarkable $25 million ahead of the last election, according to Fox News, which surpassed House Speaker Nancy Pelosi’s fundraising total. She is reportedly the second-highest-raising member of the House, only falling behind House Speaker Kevin McCarthy.

Meanwhile, Schiff raised $23 million in 2021-2022, ranking him fourth among House members during that year.

Both candidates have stains on their records.

For Rep. Katie Porter she may face hindrances in her political career due to allegations of racist behavior and fostering a toxic workplace environment. A former staffer for the congresswoman claimed that Porter had made insensitive and racist remarks towards staff and belittled individuals who reported harassment. These accusations became known in December, but received little attention from major news sources.

Similarly, Rep. Adam Schiff’s bid for the U.S. Senate is met with criticism from within the party. Schiff, widely known for leading the impeachment investigations against former President Donald Trump, was attacked by a progressive group hours after announcing his run. The group criticized Schiff’s approach towards Trump and accused him of stalling and undermining efforts to hold the former president accountable in Congress while failing to challenge corporations or the Democratic establishment.

Adam Green, who co-founded the Progressive Change Campaign Committee (PCCC) said in a statement that a book discussed Schiff’s tendency to get in the way of “leaders seeking accountability from Trump.”

Soon after, a watchdog group known as the Foundation for Accountability and Civic Trust (FACT) called for Congress’s ethics committee to launch an investigation into Schiff for allegedly utilizing unauthorized footage in his campaign video. FACT claimed in a complaint that the California progressive had “misused official resources for political gain.”

Meanwhile, Fox News reports that there are other notable democrats gearing up for the possible future election as well such as Democratic Rep. Ro Khanna, and California Congresswoman Barbara Lee, 76.
