(LibertySociety.com) – Pop star Britney Spears has been in the news quite a bit recently. Her battle to end the conservatorship she’s been under since 2008 has a lot of people talking. She’s had a team of people in charge of every aspect of her life since then. And this week, she finally received some positive news in the fight to regain her rights.
On Wednesday, July 14, Los Angeles Superior Court Judge Brenda Penny ruled that Spears can hire her own attorney. For years, a court-appointed attorney named Samuel Ingham represented her. Last month, she alleged she did not believe she was getting proper representation. On July 6, Ingham resigned from his position. After the hearing, she posted a message on Twitter celebrating her win.

During an emotional hearing, the pop star also said she wants to charge her father with “conservatorship abuse.” Spears has been fighting for more than a year to have her father removed as her conservator. During the June hearing, she claimed she was given antipsychotic meds and had an IUD (birth control) inserted against her will.
Spears is now moving forward with plans to terminate the conservatorship. She’s said she was unaware she could move to end it before. Former federal prosecutor Mathew Rosengart is her new attorney. Jamie Spears, the pop star’s father, has denied allegations he has abused her.
