(LibertySociety.com) – Sunni Welles, a lifelong performer and actor who accused convicted felon Bill Cosby of raping her when she was just 17, died in early August 2021 of lung cancer at the age of 72. Not only did she not get to see justice for her alleged ordeal, but the actress also witnessed Cosby’s release from prison for a technicality after serving a measly three years for his crimes.
"I once liked Bill Cosby very much but that has changed now," Sunni Welles said in 2015 after accusing Cosby of sexually assaulting her at the age of 17. https://t.co/HkCC1gt39y

Upon cutting ties with the former comedian in the late 60s, Welles buried her secret and continued her acting career until the 90s, when she retired to play jazz in California. She lived life on her terms, carrying her secret until about 60 brave women stepped forward with their assault allegations, bringing her memories to the surface in 2015. She then spoke out and joined the other women in bringing to light long-held secrets.
Although the statute of limitations made it too late for the actress to bring charges, Welles was at least able to release the secret and unburden her heart. Hopefully, she can rest in peace knowing that she spent her time doing what she loved without letting her pain define her.
