(LibertySociety.com) – Just days before the first general election presidential debate, President Biden’s campaign announced a $50 million ad buy that will partially focus on former President Trump’s recent conviction on 34 felonies in the New York hush money trial.
The campaign’s goal is to convince voters that he is not a suitable candidate, while simultaneously placing Biden on a moral pedestal. One million will be spent to reach Hispanic, Asian, and black voters through television, streaming services, mobile devices, and cable.
The Biden team claims that the early execution of such a large ad campaign is to provide clarity to voters about what each candidate has to offer. However, some believe that the Biden campaign is attempting to shift the focus away from Biden’s age and apparent cognitive decline. Multiple polls have shown that voters are concerned about Biden’s fitness to hold the most powerful position in the country. Moreover, Biden’s behavior during public appearances could overshadow the narrative pushed by the new ad. On June 16 during an elitist fundraiser in Los Angeles, Biden appeared to freeze for a few seconds before former President Obama grabbed his arm and carefully ushered him backstage.
Other factors may be in play regarding Biden’s loss of support from certain demographics. One left-leaning media outlet host was at a loss for words while highlighting an aggregate of recent polls from various networks. The polling average showed a 43-point decrease in support for Biden among black voters under 50 and a nine-point loss among black voters over 50. Overall, Trump has tripled his support from black voters, with the polling average showing 21 percent support compared to just seven percent in 2020.
Trump’s campaign blasted the Biden campaign for “lighting another $50 million on fire,” calling it “another irrelevant issue” that is of no concern to voters. Additionally, Biden’s strategy to influence minority voters using Trump’s recent conviction may backfire, as many believe that he is a victim of political prosecution and discrimination. Mainstream media outlets have attempted to flip the script against Trump when he discusses his relatability with black voters in this aspect. Fortunately for Trump, the Democrats’ hypocrisy is not lost on voters, as they have long claimed that black people are unfairly targeted by the criminal justice system.
