Biden Sparks Outrage Allowing Iran Regime to Vote in U.S.

(LibertySociety.com) – Critics of Iran are blasting the Biden administration for making arrangements in several hotels in the US for Iranian citizens abroad to participate in their nation’s presidential election, which is believed to be a sham by those opposed to the Middle Eastern nation’s government.

On Friday, July 5, Iran held its presidential elections. The winner of the contest was Masoud Pezeshkian, a prominent heart surgeon, who defeated Saeed Jalili, a current member of the Expediency Discernment Council and former nuclear negotiator who also served as Iran’s secretary of the Supreme National Security Council for over five years. Jalili only gained 44.3% of the vote next to Pezeshkian’s 53.3%, losing by a full ten points.

The Iranian government announced a list of polling stations set up through official state representatives in US locations, including over 30 US cities throughout multiple states, including Washington, D.C. Protesters gathered outside some of those locations in opposition to the Iranian regime and the US government’s cooperation. Protesters argue that Iranian elections are controlled and nothing more than a spectacle.

There have been growing concerns in the US about national security and Iran, especially after the Oct. 7, 2023, attack on Israel by Hamas. The Iranian government is believed by many to have had a hand in financing and planning the attack, which killed over 1,200 people, resulted in 200 captured hostages, and an ongoing war that’s killed an additional 37,000 in the Gaza Strip as Israel tries to weed out Hamas from the region.

Foreign Desk editor-in-chief and Iranian-American relations expert Lisa Daftari criticized the US government for helping to facilitate voting in the nation’s election from US soil. She called the decision “deeply troubling” and noted the Islamic Republic’s “history of violence against Americans” and that some Americans remain hostage to the nation. Daftari described the regime as “murderous” and called Biden’s decision “perplexing.”

Despite the US’s help, voter turnout for the Iranian election was historically low, according to a Fox News report.
