(LibertySociety.com) – The House Judiciary Committee last week released a report on the February attack on a Chicago CTA commuter by four Venezuelan illegal immigrants.
According to reports at the time, a 49-year-old man was riding a CTA train bound for Chicago on February 17 when 20-year-old Venezuelan migrant Carlos Carreno-Carreno lured him to the back of the train where he and three other Venezuelan migrants attacked him and robbed him of his cell phone and $400 cash.
According to prosecutors, one of the men, Wilker Gutierrez Sierra, 21, blocked the doorway to prevent the man from escaping while 21-year-old Yonnier Guasamucare-Garcia jumped him and put his arm around the man’s neck until he lost consciousness. Meanwhile, the fourth man, 22-year-old Fernando Loyo-Rodriguez, rooted through the man’s pockets to rob him.
When passengers realized what was happening, they informed CTA staffers who held the train at the Pulaski station and kept the four men contained until the police could arrive.
Two of the men had been in the US for three months. A third had arrived just one month before the attack.
In an interim report released last Wednesday as part of its series on the consequences of the administration’s open-border policies, the Judiciary Committee’s Subcommittee on Immigration Integrity, Security, and Enforcement highlighted the February incident and the information the committee received about the four Venezuelan men involved, including when they arrived in the US and how the administration’s policies allowed them to remain.
In an August 21 press release announcing the report, the Judiciary Committee noted that three of the men, Carreno-Carreno, Loyo-Rodriguez, and Guasamucare-Garcia, were granted pre-trial release for shoplifting just weeks before the February attack. All four men were residing at a state-funded shelter for migrants in Chicago.
The committee accused the Biden-Harris administration’s “disastrous immigration policies” of having real-world consequences on the lives of Americans by allowing criminal aliens into communities to hurt families and harm public safety.
The Judiciary Committee press release said that the victim of the February attack would “never be the same” because the administration permitted non-citizens to enter the country illegally.
