(LibertySociety.com) – Mexico’s National Institute of Migration (INM) recently launched its “Secure Emerging Mobility Corridor” program, which provides free transportation, meals, and security for migrants traveling from the Mexico-Guatemala border to U.S. ports of entry. These migrants, arriving under the Biden-Harris administration’s CBP One app, will be admitted to the U.S. without needing to pass the traditional credible fear interview, the first step in asylum processing.
The first bus arrived in Reynosa, Tamaulipas, Mexico, on Wednesday morning, just across the border from McAllen, Texas. This bus transported migrants from various Central and South American countries. The program was developed following meetings in August between Mexican President Andrés Manuel López Obrador and the Biden-Harris administration. These discussions expanded the area in Mexico where migrants can access the CBP One app, allowing them to schedule appointments to enter the U.S. and seek asylum.
The program enables Mexican authorities to regulate and manage the flow of migrants more efficiently. It coordinates the free transportation service with scheduled appointments for entry into the U.S., where up to 1,450 migrants are admitted daily under the CBP One app. The migrants bypass the typical credible fear interview, which Congress has not authorized.
Buses under this program depart from Villahermosa, Tabasco, and Tapachula, Chiapas, and travel to eight U.S. ports of entry. These ports will accommodate over 500,000 migrants per year under the CBP One app. The newly implemented program allows migrants, who previously could only schedule appointments in central and northern Mexico, to access this service from the southern part of the country, helping streamline the flow of migrant traffic.
In addition to this program, the Biden-Harris administration has reinstituted a separate plan for Cuban, Haitian, Nicaraguan, and Venezuelan migrants, allowing up to 1,000 people per day to fly directly into the U.S. Between these two programs, more than 800,000 migrants are expected to enter the U.S. each year to pursue asylum claims.
The “Secure Emerging Mobility Corridor” is one of several efforts aimed at managing migration from Central and South America, offering a more organized system for migrants seeking entry into the U.S. Mexico’s involvement has been essential in facilitating the transport and safety of migrants headed for the U.S.
