(LibertySociety.com) – During his first interview since debating former President Donald Trump, President Joe Biden invented a new word, stating that he would accept losing to Trump as long as he was certain that he did the “goodest” job possible.
On Friday, July 5, Biden appeared on ABC News and was interviewed at length by anchor George Stephanopoulos. During the sit-down, Stephanopoulos said he never witnessed any president with a 36% approval rating win a race for re-election. He then asked Biden how he would feel if he remained in the presidential race and still lost to Trump in November and everything the president warned about a second Trump term “comes to pass.”
“How will you feel in January?” the host asked.
Biden replied that he would feel that as long as he gave it his all and did “the goodest job” possible, he would be okay because that is “what this [the presidency] is all about.”
During that conversation, Stephanopoulos challenges the president quite heavily on his advanced age, questionable mental acuity, and whether or not he has the physical endurance to continue running the country. Biden pushed back on the host’s questions by assuring viewers he was still fit for the job and believed he could defeat Trump as the Democratic nominee, despite the polls showing otherwise.
The president told Stephanopoulos that he believes the country “and the world” have reached “an inflection point,” adding that he means how the next six or seven decades turn out will be determined by “things” that happen over “the next several years.”
The interview doesn’t seem to have had much of an effect, and Biden’s use of the word “goodest” inspired a new wave of jokes amongst social media users. Some debated over what the president actually said, but the official transcript on the ABC website uses the word “goodest,” a screenshot of which was posted by a Trump super PAC communications director.
A recent poll shows that Trump leads Biden by 3 points. Despite the obvious signs, Biden remains firm in his decision to keep running, and his family is encouraging him to.
