(LibertySociety.com) – On March 6, Secretary of State Antony Blinken confirmed officials in Ukraine have a plan in place to ensure the “continuity of government” in the unfortunate event of Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy’s death. Although he wouldn’t go into detail about the plans, the Ukrainian constitution states the chair of the parliament would take over as president in that case.
Ruslan Stefanchuk currently holds the position, but there was no confirmation he would succeed Zelenskyy or if their plans went beyond just a simple replacement. Stefanchuk gained his position as chairman in October 2021, and his views reportedly align with those of Zelenskyy.

Thus far, the Ukrainians have staved off three assassination attempts on the president’s life, and he reportedly remains in his country to fight beside his fellow citizens. During Blinken’s interview, he spoke about Zelenskyy’s bravery and the remarkable leadership example he set for the world.
Officials advised the Ukrainians to move top officials regularly and keep them separate. Blinken said the United States would continue to do what it can to pressure Russian President Vladimir Putin to stop the war. He also said the US is trying to ensure Ukraine can continue to defend itself.
