(LibertySociety.com) – The Biden-Harris administration is facing scrutiny after sending out a taxpayer-funded email to millions of Medicare recipients that praised Vice President Kamala Harris ahead of the upcoming election. The email, distributed by the Department of Health and Human Services (HHS), included a letter from President Joe Biden highlighting recent reforms to Medicare, attributing key changes to Harris’s work in securing votes for the Inflation Reduction Act.
In the message, Biden emphasized that Harris cast the deciding vote that led to lower health care costs and allowed Medicare to negotiate prescription drug prices. While the letter positioned these changes as a benefit to seniors, some recipients flagged the email as inappropriate, calling it more of a campaign ad than an informational update. Critics argue that using government resources, such as HHS, for political messaging may violate Federal Election Commission (FEC) rules, which prohibit campaigning with taxpayer funds.
The email, sent through the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services, was labeled as being funded by HHS, and while it promoted recent policy changes, it raised concerns over potential violations of the Hatch Act. This act restricts government employees and agencies from engaging in political activities.
This is not the first time the administration has faced allegations of using taxpayer resources for potential campaigning. Senator Ted Cruz previously raised concerns about signs placed near infrastructure projects funded by Biden’s infrastructure law, which he also called campaign tactics at taxpayer expense.
As the election draws nearer, the Biden-Harris team faces growing criticism from political opponents who suggest that such moves are designed to boost Harris’s campaign as the Democratic nominee. Whether or not these actions breach legal boundaries remains a matter for further investigation, but the controversy adds fuel to the ongoing debate over the role of public resources in political campaigning.
