(LibertySociety.com) – In early 2020, Tara Reade, who was a former staff assistant for Joe Biden when he was a Senator for the state of Delaware, came forward with allegations that he sexually assaulted her in a hallway back in 1993. Joe Biden denied the allegations against him. However, the University of Delaware, which houses his Senatorial records, refused to turn them over for review after Reade said that her original complaint and detailed documents should be on file there.
Shortly after the 118th Congress began, some Republicans were working with Reade to get her to testify in the House of Representatives to give her an opportunity to tell her story. Now she has left the United States, claiming that she fears for her life. According to reports, she has relocated to Moscow, Russia, with the help of Russian Parliament member Maria Butina, who is most widely known for her foreign agent operations in the United States. Reade held a press conference upon her arrival in Russia, where she said, “I just didn’t want to walk home and walk into a cage or be killed,” when speaking about her life before leaving the United States.
Reade came under fire from some media outlets following her sexual assault allegations against Biden, and she pushed back against them claiming they made false accusations against her. For instance, The New York Times looked into her educational and personal history, and accused her of lying about her college degree from Antioch University. Reade reportedly went to a number of outlets with the help of an attorney, trying to get them to take back this claim.
Reade said she that she can eventually come back to the United States for visits, but also intends to become a Russian citizen. During her press conference, she stated, “I feel very surrounded by protection and safety,” also expressing her gratitude to Butina and others for helping her get settled in Moscow.
