Barbara Lee Joins Race To Take Over for Senator Feinstein

Race To Replace Senator Feinstein Heats Up

(LibertySociety.com) – Multiple Democrat lawmakers are throwing their hat into the race to replace Senator Dianne Feinstein, D-CA, who officially announced on February 14th, 2023 that she would not be running for reelection in 2024. Senator Feinstein is the oldest member of the Senate, and has held her seat since 1992. Now Representative Barbara Lee, D- CA, has announced that she will also be running for Senator Feinstein’s seat, joining Representatives Katie Porter, D-CA, and Representative Adam Schiff, D-CA. Representative Lee self-identifies as a progressive, citing many of her life accomplishments in her newly released campaign video on February 21, 2023.

Another possible contender for the race is Representative Ro Khanna, D-CA, who has stated that he is considering running for the vacant Senate seat, although according to Politico, others are pushing him to run for President. However, Representative Khanna has publicly stated that he will not be running for President.

According to reports, Representative Lee is using her campaign platform to go after “MAGA extremists,” who she claims “think they can control peoples’ bodies and dismantle our democracy.” Notably, Representative Lee was one of the many Democrats who objected to the certification of electors from ten different states for President Trump on January 6th, 2017. In a statement that she posted on Facebook, she cited her reasoning for objecting, which included voting machine malfunctions as well as other voter suppression tactics she claimed were committed at polling locations.

Representative Lee expressed her appreciation of Senator Feinstein, congratulating her on her retirement. Fox news reports that Representative Lee has the support from Senator Elizabeth Warren, D-Mass, while Representative Adam Schiff has support from Representative Nancy Pelosi, D-CA.
