(LibertySociety.com) – The House Oversight Committee’s investigation of the Biden family business deals has shed an enormous amount of sunlight on what appears to be an influence-peddling scheme that began many years ago when Joe Biden was vice president. While Hunter Biden has been at the center of most of the media reporting due to revelations obtained from his abandoned laptop, several other members of the Biden family have also financially benefited from the business deals. Suspicious Activity Reports (SARs) obtained have helped the committee tie up loose ends regarding whom the Biden’s received money from, but it has yet to find a legitimate explanation of the work that was done to receive such compensation.
Devin Archer, one of Hunter Biden’s business associates, provided more details about President Biden’s involvement when he sat for a transcribed interview with the committee on July 31. He told members that Hunter would call Joe Biden on speakerphone during meetings with foreign companies to promote “the brand” of his family’s last name. Archer said that Hunter Biden would call the senior Biden “my guy” as he introduced him to his potential business partners. He said that he was present during more than 20 conversations where Hunter Biden introduced his father.
Archer also discussed Hunter Biden’s role on the board of the Ukrainian energy company Burisma, telling lawmakers that the company would have gone underwater if it was not for the Biden family brand. The Republicans who spoke to the press after the interview said that Archer discussed the firing of the Ukrainian prosecutor Viktor Shokin. He said that Hunter Biden was tasked with influencing the United States government to have Shokin removed, and recounted a time when the owner of Burisma, Hunter Biden, and another Burisma executive made a phone call to someone in D.C. to discuss the matter. Republicans believe that Hunter Biden potentially violated the Foreign Agents Registration Act (FARA) and believe Archer’s testimony revealed President Biden’s involvement in great detail. Democrats like Rep. Dan Goldman of New York attempted to downplay Archer’s testimony to run cover for the senior Biden.
