Another Candidate Joins the 2024 Republican Presidential Primary

(LibertySociety.com) – Things are heating up in the bid for the Republican nomination for President of the United States with yet another candidate hopping in the race. Larry Elder, who has been a conservative radio host for over two decades and also attempted to replace Democrat California Governor Gavin Newsom in a recall election, announced his candidacy during an appearance on Tucker Carlson Tonight on April 20th, 2023. Like other official and potential candidates, Elder has traveled to early primary states, talking to constituents to get a feel for interest in his candidacy.

Although Elder failed in his run against Governor Newsom, he did receive 3 million more votes than any other Republican candidate. During his interview with Tucker Carlson, Elder joked with him about how the LA Times labeled him “The black face of white supremacy” because he does not believe that America is systemically racist and is a pro-life advocate. Elder then announced that he was running for president, discussing the military service of his father and siblings, with his father serving as a Marine in World War II, and his siblings serving in the Navy and Army during Vietnam.

Elder described how he felt a duty to serve his country in another way since he never did serve in the military, stating that he has “a moral, religious, and patriotic duty to give back to a country” that has had a positive impact on him and his loved ones. Carlson followed by asking him about the main issues he plans to speak about that are important to the country, with Elder explaining that he believes there needs to be pushback on the Democrats for pretending that America is systemically racist. He claimed their rhetoric is causing real-world harm to minorities because police are leaving the force and recruitment is low.

Elder joins a sizeable list of candidates, including former President Donald Trump, former South Carolina Governor Nikki Haley, entrepreneur/author Vivek Ramaswamy, and former Arkansas Governor Asa Hutchinson officially on the ticket.
