Actress Danielle Fishel Diagnosed with Breast Cancer

(LibertySociety.com) – Actress Danielle Fishel offered her thanks to fans after she revealed her breast cancer diagnosis.

The former star of “Boy Meets World” revealed in the August 19 podcast of “Pod Meets World” that she was recently diagnosed with ductal carcinoma in situ, a form of breast cancer.

In an Instagram video last Tuesday, Fishel thanked her fans for their “enormous outpouring of love and support” since she announced her diagnosis.

She said she opened up about her breast cancer to share how important it was to get diagnosed early. She said her cancer was found “very early” while it was at the “non-invasive” stage zero.

During the August 19 podcast, Fishel explained that ductal carcinoma in situ (DCIS) is a form of breast cancer that is considered a “micro-invasion.” She said it had been detected “very, very early” and “technically” was “stage zero.”

Fishel said she would undergo surgery to remove the cancer and would follow up with treatment but assured her fans that she would be fine.

In her Instagram video, Fishel encouraged her fans to get screened for cancer, explaining that the only reason her cancer was found early was that she prioritized getting a mammogram.

She said that since she revealed her diagnosis, many people told her that they either scheduled a mammogram for themselves or urged their friends or family to do so.

Fishel also noted that breast cancer was not “women-specific” and urged men to also get tested yearly. She said while nobody wants to get the news that their test results were abnormal if the tests are done regularly, it is more likely that cancer will be detected early.

In addition to thanking her fans, Fischel also thanked her husband Jensen Karp.

Karp had earlier praised his wife for “using her platform to raise awareness” and described her as “the strongest person I’ve ever met.”

Karp also replied to his wife’s video, saying he was proud of her.
