(LibertySociety.com) – The widow of the former fire chief slain during the attempted assassination of former President Donald Trump reportedly refused to speak with President Joe Biden because she says her husband’s Republican beliefs and dislike for the president.
Former President Donald Trump survived an assassination attempt on Saturday, July 13, after eight rounds were fired at him, one of which grazed the former president’s ear. Not everyone was as fortunate that day. Two attendees of the Trump rally were badly injured, and one man died.
Fifty-year-old Corey Comperatore was sitting in the stands behind Trump when the shooting began and was fatally struck while trying to protect his family during the chaos. In a statement after the incident, Trump expressed his condolences to Comperatore’s family. As is customary, Biden also made a statement and then reached out to Comperatore’s family, but the slain man’s wife refused to speak to Biden.
When a reporter asked Helen Comperatore about the phone call from Biden, she said she did not speak with him. According to Helen, the reason for this was not only because she “didn’t want to,” but also because she said her husband, who she described as “a devout Republican,” would not have wanted her to talk to Biden. Helen added that she had no personal “ill will” towards the president and that she was someone who typically stayed out of politics.
Comperatore’s daughter described the retired fire chief as “the best father a girl could ask for.” She said that when the bullets started flying, he threw her and her mother “to the ground” and shielded them from the gunfire.
The family received a wave of support from politicians and celebrities. Donald Trump Jr. also praised Comperatore during his remarks at the Republican National Convention (RNC), calling him a hero and asking the crowd to give him a moment of acknowledgement. The crowd began to chant “Corey, Corey, Corey” in a moment that was one of the highlights of the third day of the convention.
