(LibertySociety.com) – The son of former YouTube CEO Susan Wojcicki was found unresponsive in a dormitory on February 13 at the Clark Kerr Campus of UC Berkeley. After initiating first aid, the Berkeley Fire Department pronounced the 19-year-old dead.
Marco Troper was in the second half of his first year at the university. Two days later, his grandmother Esther Wojcicki posted about his death on Facebook, writing that his “life was cut too short.” She wrote that he was loving his experience at the university and had made many friends. The grandmother also spoke to SFGate, revealing that her grandson was killed by a drug that he had ingested, but said “we don’t know what was in it.”
Esther Wojcicki told the outlet that they were awaiting the results from the toxicology report, which could take a month. She added that the family wanted to do everything it could to prevent other families from going through the same thing. Troper was raised in Los Altos and attended a Jewish school before switching to Menlo School, which he graduated from in 2023. He spent time tutoring other students and participating in technology-related school activities. Esther Wojcicki said that he was a genius when it came to mathematics and that he was doing well at UC Berkeley. She discussed his athletic capabilities, noting that he loved playing all sports.
UC Berkeley has offered counseling services to those affected by Troper’s death. Students will also be able to recount memories of their time spent with Troper during group meetings. The university did not divulge any information related to Troper’s death besides confirming that the incident was currently under investigation. Esther Wojcicki explained the devastation the family was feeling with the death of Troper but said that helping others so they do not suffer the same fate is something that the family would likely pursue in the future. Troper leaves behind four siblings.
